You live in a condo. The HOA takes care of all your landscaping needs, but you need to get your gardening fix. Indoor gardening is a great way to exercise all your gardening desires. Here is everything you'll need to get and stay started.
I have a grey tote I keep on my back patio. When you pop off the lid, you'll find all my extra pots and gardening tools. This keeps it from cluttering up my condo, and its all neatly stored in one area. When I'm ready to repot, I just grab this tote and find what I need. I keep my soil indoors on my laundry room shelf because I want it to stay fresh from any of the outside elements. Everything else goes in here.
Speaking of gardening tools, I have a set of three. The top one helps me loosen the inside of my pot. so I can easily remove the plant. The shovel is great for grabbing the soil from the bag, and patting down the soil onces its in the pot. The rake I haven't really found a need for, but its always good to have.
I found the best way to indoor garden without making a mess everywhere, is with a potting mat. Its waterproof, and folds for easy storage. I do all my repotting in it, then carefully hold up the sides and throw all the loose soil outside. Since its waterproof, I wipe off any extra moisture, and then fold and store for my next planting adventure. You can get a potting mat in various sizes on Amazon.
These things are great. Before you start putting soil and the plant in an empty pot, place these mesh pads over your drainage hole. I can't tell you how many times I've lifted a potted plant off its saucer, and soil spills out from the drainage hole. These mesh pads prevent any loose soil to come out the bottom drainage hole, keeping your floor and home dirt free. Genius! I have two bookshelves in my bedroom, and above them I have a variety of houseplants. Since my bedroom curtains are usually closed, I need an extra boost of light for my plants. I got this two headed plant light that has a 4, 8, or 12 hour timer. I opt for 12 on / 12 off. My plants have all excelled in growth with this light, and its still working great a year later.
